Kathmandu: Five Nepali nationals who were imprisoned in Iran for various offenses have returned home, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their release was facilitated following a court order in Iran, with coordination from the Nepali Honorary Consul in Tehran and support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Earlier, nine Nepali citizens had been rescued from Iran in three separate phases with the help of the Indian government, using Indian Air Force evacuation flights arranged to bring home stranded Indian citizens.

The Foreign Ministry also noted that the peace and security situation in the region has improved significantly following the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, which was agreed on June 13 and officially took effect on June 23, 2025.

The Government of Nepal expressed gratitude to all parties and institutions involved for their cooperation and goodwill in securing the safe return of Nepali citizens.
